Happy International Credit Union Day!

Wow, another year has just flown on by! It seems like just yesterday we were sharing our thoughts about International Credit Union Day 2014. So much has happened in the last twelve months, we could spend all day reflecting back on the goals we've set, accomplishments we've made, impact we've had, and the memories that have come from working to better our members' lives and the communities in which we serve.
In order to do all of this, and do it well, we have to stay motivated and passionate about our work. That's why we strive to live by the seven co-operative principles in all that we do. Did you know that credit unions are, in fact, co-ops? We sure are! Our number one priority, of course, is being there for our members. It's also in our nature as a co-operative, though, to make a positive impact on our communities at large.
As we celebrate credit unions today, let's take a look back at the last year to see just a few of the ways 3Rivers has managed to support both:
3Rivers Credit Union Foundation
In conjunction with our 80th anniversary year, we launched the 3Rivers Credit Union Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to enhance the lives of people in the communities 3Rivers serves through the support of three key initiatives: financial literacy, education, and health and wellness.
Since then, we've granted over $160,000 to 21 area non-profits. We love learning about the organizations, new and old, that are making a difference in our region and doing our part to support their efforts! | Learn more.
We highly encourage our team members to volunteer their time and talents in the communities we serve, and since January of this year, our employees have collectively donated over 4,000 hours of their time doing so.
Back in February, on Presidents Day, more than half of our employees braved the frigid temperatures and showed up at local non-profits across the region to volunteer their time on what would have been a day off, and we had a great time doing helping out! | See more.
Our employees are given the option to donate a portion of their paychecks to the United Way of Allen County. This year, 52% of our employees opted to take part in this campaign, resulting in over $52,000 raised!
Komets Hat Trick
Each year, as a part of our partnership with the Fort Wayne Komets, we sponsor the Hat Trick program. This year, it raised $700, which our employees voted to donate to the Allen County SPCA. | See more.
We've been in business since 1935, and we've had a great time celebrating our 80th Anniversary this year! We kicked it all off with a member appreciation day at our branches, where we served up free treats and shared our stories with our members. | See more.
We love a good cookout, and we've treated our members to a few hot-off-the-grill burgers and hot dogs this year.
Events + Sponsorships
We partnered up with The Red Cross of Northeast Indiana to host two blood drives at our Northland campus in 2015. The results? 45 units of blood collected. That's a potential 135 lives saved!
We hosted three free shred days this year, all open to the public, and over the course of all three, shredded over 45,000 pounds worth of sensitive documents in an effort to prevent identity theft in our area!
Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography
We're excited to announce that on Wednesday, November 4, we'll be hosting Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography at our Northland campus. Following Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this is a quick, easy, and convenient opportunity for women to take advantage of! Screenings are available to the public by appointment. | RSVP now.
University of Saint Francis
We're proud to continue our partnership with University of Saint Francis Athletics this year! Make sure you come out and see us, and support our local veterans, at the Military Appreciation Game on Saturday, November 7!
We were so inspired by this year's Tapestry event at IPFW and were proud to be a sponsor! | Learn more.
Fort Wayne Ballet
We sponsored the opening night and Nutcracker performances of the Fort Wayne Ballet and were thrilled to have them at our Northland campus for their pop-up performance this summer!
Turn the Town Pink
We joined several other local organizations in an effort to Turn the Town Pink this spring as a part of Vera Bradley's effort to raise awareness and show support in the fight against breast cancer.
Lunch on the Plaza
The plaza is the place to be on Thursday afternoons during the summer! We sponsored Lunch on the Plaza and were excited to see the turnout at each event. What's your go-to Fort Wayne food truck? | See more.
Zoo Brew + Wine, Too
We're huge fans of this fundraiser, because we're huge fans of our award-winning non-profit zoo! We're glad to have helped support this incredible event. | Learn more.
Bands on the Banks
Are you as excited about the riverfront development project in downtown Fort Wayne as we are? We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate our rivers and support the efforts than by getting friends and family together to enjoy music, food, and recreation alongside them, and that's exactly what took place at Bands on the Banks this August! | See more.
Taste of the Arts
We strongly believe that the local restaurants, artists, and entertainment in our region are what make it a great place to live. And Taste of the Arts is a great way to showcase it all! We had a great time as sponsors of this event, and lots of great conversation! | Learn more.
Kickin' for a Cure
Our St Marys branch helped raise awareness and donations for Tailgate for Cancer this year, and also sponsored and volunteered at the Kickin' for a Cure soccer game that supports this great cause! | Learn more.
Laughs for Literacy
We had a lot of fun taking part at the Laughs for Literacy this year, and supporting the event, which raises funds and awareness for The Literacy Alliance of Fort Wayne.
This year, we gave away more than $10,000 in college scholarships to deserving students. Stay tuned for next year's contest! | Learn more.
We helped several parents and students make sense of the FAFSA before the application deadline this year, and will be offering the same services in 2016. | Learn more.
#CollegeBound: Prepare, Pay, and Succeed in College
We'll be offering a FREE seminar, open to the public, on Tuesday, November 17. This seminar will help students and parents learn more about the college application process, cover funding options, and provide tips for succeeding as a student. | RSVP now.
We love getting out and about to area schools to take part in seminars about basic personal finance topics, like budgeting and credit! This year, we spoke to students at both IPFW and Manchester University College of Pharmacy.
We believe that it's never too early to start saving for a child's college education, and we want our members to know about their options! A great way to save is by contributing to a 529 Savings Plan. On May 29 (5/29), we celebrated 529 Day and held informative sessions at several of our branches.
Several 3Rivers team members volunteer to lead courses at Junior Achievement on a regular basis.
Whew! What a year. Now it's your turn to share with us: What is it you love about your credit union or being a credit union member? We'd love to hear what the credit union difference has done for you!
