EMV chip technology for 3Rivers Debit Cards is coming! Have questions? We’ve got answers!

Wait, what is EMV technology?

Basically, it means your debit card will be embedded with a microchip that helps to secure your transactions and personal information.

How does the chip secure my information?

Each time you use the card with the EMV payment method, the chip encrypts the information into a unique code that makes card replication and fraud more difficult to achieve.

When is this change coming?

3Rivers is in the process of upgrading debit cards now. In September 2015, active 3Rivers debit cards will be replaced with the new 3Rivers EMV chip Mastercard debit card.

Do I have to do anything to prepare for my new EMV debit card?

Yes, there are a few important steps that you’ll need to take.

  • First and foremost, make sure 3Rivers has your current address and contact phone number.
  • Second, since your new debit card will be a Mastercard, it will have a brand new number and expiration date. Therefore, you’ll want to start making a list of any merchants you have authorized to auto-pay on your debit card. Once you receive your new 3Rivers Mastercard debit card, they will need to be notified of your new card information to avoid any interruptions in your payments.
