Green 3Rivers

As 3Rivers continues to grow in our community, environmental responsibility, sustainability and efficiency are paramount in the way we want to do business.

As 3Rivers continues to grow in our community, environmental responsibility, sustainability and efficiency are paramount in the way we want to do business. Over the past 10 years, 3Rivers has more than doubled in size. As the credit union grew, so did our need to grow in a responsible and sustainable way. In 2012 and 2013 3Rivers remodeled and built 6 new LEED-Certified buildings. The goals of the design and expansion and how it would relate to workflow were centered on innovation, collaboration and efficiency.  By teaming with a LEED-accredited design firm, Momentum, the construction phase diverted 50% of the construction waste, nearly 153 tons, from the landfill during the scope of the expansion projects. By lessening the impact on the environment from the groundbreaking through completion, 3Rivers was able to set the stage for a dramatic and significant cultural change to become a more efficient and environmentally conscience organization.

In that short time, 3Rivers significantly reduced the amount of paper document retention by 5,000 boxes of records, decreased its drain on resources by moving into LEED-Certified buildings, transforming the employee culture to increase awareness and action regarding our critical need to reduce, reuse and recycle. 3Rivers is the largest owner of LEED-Certified financial institutions in the state of Indiana. Our change is impacting our members as they continue to adopt electronic ways of doing business and communicating with us. To date, 41,000 of our members receive their statements electronically, substantially reducing our paper output. Annually, 3Rivers saves the membership $615,000 by providing e-Statements, resulting in higher savings rates, lower loan rates and investments in technology. Contact us to enroll in eStatements.

Annually, 3Rivers also hosts several Shred Days, which are free and open to the public. In 2014 alone, we have already recycled over 20,000 of unwanted and sensitive documents.

Last year, 3Rivers was recognized by the Allen County Solid Waste District for excellence in recycling by reducing and reusing its output.

Moving forward, our standard for doing business always bears in mind our impact. 3Rivers is committed to continually finding ways to lessen our footprint so we can contribute to building a more efficient and environmentally sound community.
