FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Have questions about the Scholarship Contest? Hopefully we can answer them here. Please thoroughly read the Overview, Official Rules, and this FAQ page before reaching out to us.
If more clarification is needed, we strongly encourage scholarship entrants to contact us themselves. Parents and teachers aren't the ones entering, after all!
Who is eligible to enter?
Undergraduate, graduate, dependent, non-dependent, and returning adult students are all eligible to enter, so long as they will be enrolled full-time at an accredited school for the 2025-26 academic school year and are a 3Rivers member. This DOES include graduating high school seniors who are entering their first year of college in fall of 2025.
Though current 3Rivers employees and board members are NOT eligible to enter, our employees’ and board members’ dependents ARE eligible to enter!
How can I become a 3Rivers member?
It’s easy! You can enter online or stop into your nearest 3Rivers branch today.
If I need to talk about other college-related things, who do I reach out to?
We’d love to help! Our Youth and College team can be reached at college@trfcu.org or by calling 260.399.8265.
What constitutes “full-time” enrollment?
While every school has different credit hour requirements to meet “full-time” enrollment, for most schools, this requires 12 credit hours or more. Graduate study typically requires 6 credit hours. If you’re unsure, please contact your university’s college advisor to see what constitutes full-time at your school.
What qualifies as “proof of enrollment?”
A screenshot, photo, or scanned copy of a letter of acceptance to an accredited school or your 2025 fall course schedule will meet this requirement.
Can I enter if I’ve not yet been accepted to a school, have not yet decided on a school, or think I might be transferring schools?
Yes! You can still enter. In place of uploading your proof of enrollment, simply upload a document that contains the line, “Proof of enrollment forthcoming.” If you are selected to receive a scholarship, we’ll hold the check until you can provide proof of enrollment.
I'm having trouble accessing the entry and/or uploading documents.
While an entry can be completed on any device, we do recommend using Chrome or Firefox browsers and ensuring you have a strong Internet connection before getting started.
If a hiccup occurs in the middle of your entry, try saving it (see directions below) and then refreshing the page or completely shutting down the browser and jumping back in.
If you're only having issues when it comes to uploading your documents, check to see if they fit the file formats and size limits listed on the entry form. If they’re too big, try decreasing the size in a photo or document editor or send them via email to scholarship@trfcu.org.
If you continue to have technical issues, contact us and we'll work with you to troubleshoot the issue.
I forgot to upload one of my documents or am having trouble uploading the documents via the entry form.
No problem! Simply attach the documents to an email with the subject line, “Additional Scholarship Entry Documents – [YOUR NAME]” and send it to scholarship@trfcu.org.
If I begin the entry but need to step away from my computer, can I save my progress and continue later?
Yes! You are welcome to work on your entry in more than one sitting by following these steps.
- At the bottom of the entry screen, you’ll see link that says, “Save and Continue Later” (desktop) or a Save icon (mobile.)
- Upon clicking this, you’ll be prompted to enter your email. Enter your email, and a link to your entry will be sent to you.
- Open the email, click the provided link, and you’ll be taken back to where you left off!
If for some reason you do not receive the email, or misplace it, email us at scholarship@trfcu.org and we will do our best to retrieve your entry and send it to you.
How do I know my entry has been successfully submitted?
After you submit your entry, you should immediately see a screen confirming your submission, and within several minutes, receive an email confirmation as well. If you don’t see a confirmation email in your inbox, please check your spam folder before contacting us.
I already submitted my entry but realized there was something I wanted to add to my submission. Or I’d simply like to redo it all. Can I resubmit a new entry?
Sorry, because of the volume of entries and documents we receive over the course of the entry period, we will only allow one submission per entrant to help us keep proper track. We encourage you to thoroughly read all instructions, double check that you’ve attached the appropriate documents, and proofread your essay before submitting the final version to us to ensure everything is accurate. If you’ve mistyped or left out important information (address, phone number, etc.) we will reach out to you for clarification.
How do I get entered into the randomly drawn contest?
Schedule a 30-minute financial aid review with our Youth & College Team by emailing us at college@trfcu.org or giving us a call at 260.399.8265. You must complete your financial aid review by Monday, June 2, 2025. If complete your review and are not selected to receive a scholarship by the committee, you’ll be entered into the random drawing!
Can I schedule my financial aid review to get entered before I submit my entry?
Yes! You can schedule (and even complete) your financial aid review before submitting your scholarship entry.
Can I skip filling out a Scholarship Contest entry and just get an entry to the randomly drawn contest by having a financial aid review?
No. To be entered into any part of the scholarship contest, you’ll need to complete an entry.
What does the financial aid review consist of?
Every review will look different, and we’ll customize yours to your situation! We can use the time to review your financial aid award letters, discuss your college funding options, help you find other scholarship opportunities, and more.
What are my meeting options for the financial aid review?
We’re always happy to meet you at your nearest 3Rivers location, and can also meet virtually or over the phone if those options work better for everyone involved.
Can my parent(s)/guardian(s) join me for the financial aid review?
We’d encourage it! You’re welcome to bring whomever you’d like along for your meeting.
I missed the deadline due to technical difficulties, misreading the deadline date or time, procrastination, etc. Can I still be considered if I'm a few minutes or hours late?
Sorry! The deadline to enter is 12:00 PM EST (noon, not midnight!) on Monday, June 2, 2025. Any entries received after this time will NOT be taken into consideration, no matter the reason. Please use your time wisely, and plan to complete the entry well in advance of the deadline to avoid any potential issues.
If you do experience technical difficulties at any time during the entry process, please contact us detailing the issues you're having BEFORE 10:00 AM EST on June 2.
How and when will I be notified if I win a scholarship?
Scholarship winners will be notified first by email (the email provided on the entry, so please be sure it's accurate), and then, pending no response, by phone. Any email contact from us will come from "Scholarship" (scholarship@trfcu.org) or Jordan Hersey (jhersey@trfcu.org).
We will contact all entrants with the results on or by Friday, June 27, 2025.
Will I be contacted even if I don’t win?
Yes, we contact all entrants to let them know the outcome.
If I win, what happens next?
We’ll ask you to confirm your mailing address and send your check via USPS within a few weeks of contacting you. Please be sure the address you provide is one you will be residing at when the check arrives (don’t give us your college dorm address if you’ll be living back at home for the summer)! We cannot send checks to your university, so please plan accordingly for getting it to them.
Winners who submitted an art-based entry must drop their art piece off at their nearest 3Rivers branch OR mail it to our corporate office: 1615 Northland Blvd. Fort Wayne, IN 46825 ATTN: Youth & College Team
Winners MUST respond by email or phone by 5:00 PM EST on Friday, July 25, 2025. If we are unable to contact winners by this time, they risk forfeiting their prize to another entrant.
Scholarship checks will be made out in the winner’s name as well as the name of their school. We suggest presenting the check in-person to your college’s bursar office.
NOTE: Some universities may lessen (or void) any existing grants or scholarships you’ve received from them should you receive scholarship funds from an outside organization. We encourage you to check in with your university’s financial aid office to ensure that, should you win extra scholarships like this one, you won’t lose out on anything they’ve already granted you! 3Rivers has no control over how universities may alter a student’s funding upon receiving one of our scholarships.
What kinds of rules and regulations enter to the Scholarship Contest?
We have them all written out for you on our Official Rules page!
I have other questions about the Scholarship Contest not listed here. Who should I contact?
We’d be happy to assist you and ask that the scholarship entrant themselves contact us at scholarship@trfcu.org.
For details on prize amounts, entry instructions, essay questions, and more, check out our Scholarship Overview Page and Official Rules Page.
