Earth Day: How 3Rivers is Going Green

Happy Earth Day! Did you know that at 3Rivers, we are environmentally conscious and earth-friendly in many ways, every day?

We've been making great strides over the last few years to lessen our carbon footprint, as well as the waste we produce, and give back to our community – and the Earth – by taking action to continue our day-to-day while being far better to the environment. How, you ask?

We’ve Gone Paperless

While members still occasionally receive paper statements, reminders, and postcards through the mail, we’ve cut way, way back on the amount of print we use at our credit union. Members can now do almost all of their banking entirely online and on their mobile. From e-statements to paying bills, depositing checks to making transfers, opening accounts to applying for a loan – all of this can be done without the paperwork! We’re LEED Certified

3Rivers FCU was the first credit union in the state of Indiana and the first financial institution in Fort Wayne to receive LEED Certification at the Silver level when our West Jefferson and Dupont branches opened in the Summer of 2010. Since then, our Auburn, Bluffton, and Harrison Square branches and our Northland headquarters have been added to that list. Buildings receive LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification when they satisfy certain prerequisites in different categories like Energy & Atmosphere, Water Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation, Materials & Resources, and more. Basically, our buildings have “gone green” – which helps us to focus on environmental responsibility and using our resources wisely while we work. We Recycle

In addition to going digital and creating environmentally friendly buildings, 3Rivers recently received Allen County Solid Waste District’s “Excellence in Recycling” Award. With recycling facilities conveniently located throughout our buildings, this is something we partake in daily. We have also partnered with, and will continue to partner with, the Better Business Bureau, the Indiana State Police, and Iron Mountain Record Management to provide free “Shred Day” opportunities for the public, in which individuals and businesses can bring paper documents containing sensitive, personal information to be shredded, disposed of, and recycled properly to help prevent identity theft. We Won't Stop Here

We love giving back to the communities in which we serve – and the Earth as a whole – when it comes to the environment, just as much as we love helping our members and the public with their money matters. Our drive and desire to reduce, reuse, and recycle has resulted in a tremendous cutback on waste in our area over the past few years and we’re excited to learn about and practice even more ways to be environmentally friendly in the future.
