What You Should Know About Indiana’s Workforce Ready Grant

“We want to send a message to Hoosiers that if you come back and get a certificate in a high value area, we will pay for it.” – Theresa Lubbers, Indiana’s Commissioner for Higher Education

Lubbers' commentary regards the State of Indiana's option for employees to receive additional training in high-value fields - areas of the economy with high job placement, high wages, and high demand.

Students looking to work in Advanced Manufacturing, Building & Construction, Health Services, IT & Business Technology, or Transportation & Logistics may qualify for FREE training at Ivy Tech and Vincennes University, with the new Workforce Ready Grant offered by Indiana’s Commission for Higher Education!

The program began with employers wanting well-qualified workers, so it offers up to two years of education, with opportunities to complete an associate’s or bachelor’s degree after.

The State is projecting an increase in available jobs in these fields, and employers want educated workers!

There are some requirements to qualify:

  • Be an Indiana resident and a US citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Complete the FAFSA
  • Possess a high school diploma, high school equivalency diploma, or GED
  • Not already possess an associate’s or bachelor’s degree
  • Enroll at least half time at Ivy Tech or Vincennes

If you are not moving toward one of these specific fields, or you’ve already earned a degree and are looking for extra education opportunities, you may qualify for a different grant in place of the Workforce Ready Grant.

The Adult Student Grant offers up to $2,000 per year to start or complete an associate’s, bachelor’s, or other certificate. It’s designed to help working adults complete college, and encourages online and evening classes.

Whether you’re a first-time college student or going back after some years away, we’d be glad to help you find resources to meet your needs! Ask our college funding department any questions you have!
