OVERVIEW

You're eligible to enter our scholarship contest if you:

  • have been accepted at and/or will be enrolled full time (typically 12 credit hours for undergraduate students and six credit hours for graduate students, but varies by school and program) in a two or four-year program or graduate program at an accredited college, university, trade school, or graduate school for the 2024-2025 school year (if not currently accepted/enrolled, can show proof of enrollment at a later date);
  • have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (or equivalent) or higher;
  • and are a current 3Rivers member. Apply online today!

ENTERING IS EASY! You’ll be asked to complete a short application, upload proof of enrollment for the 2024 Fall Semester and a recent photo, and provide an essay of 500-1,000 words on one of the three following topics:

  • Option 1: Research and discuss personal finance related social media trends and highlight how you either accept or reject the main arguments. (Some examples: “Girl/Boy Math,” “Doom Spending,” “Loud Budgeting,” side hustles, passive income streams, #DebtFreeJourney, and #FrugalLiving. Brainstorm: how might social media be used to teach students about money?)
  • Option 2: Reflect on a significant financial decision you or someone you know made and discuss the factors that influenced the choice and the lessons learned. (How did this decision impact your/their financial wellness and pursuit of future goals? Knowing what you/they know today, would you/they make the same choice?)
  • Option 3: You’ve been awarded a significant amount of money. Outline a detailed plan for how you’d manage this money to achieve your long-term goals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have questions about the Scholarship Contest? Hopefully we can answer them here. Please thoroughly read the OverviewOfficial Rules, and this FAQ page before reaching out to us.

If more clarification is needed, we strongly encourage the scholarship applicants to contact us themselves. Parents and teachers aren't the ones applying, after all!

Who is eligible to apply?

Undergraduate, graduate, dependent, non-dependent, and returning adult students are all eligible to apply, so long as they will be enrolled full-time at an accredited school for the 2024-25 academic school year and are a 3Rivers member. This DOES include graduating high school seniors who are entering their first year of college in fall of 2024.

Though current 3Rivers employees and board members are NOT eligible to apply, our employees’ and board members’ dependents ARE eligible to apply!

How can I become a 3Rivers member?

It’s easy! You can apply online or stop into your nearest 3Rivers branch today.

If I need to talk about other college-related things, who do I reach out to?

We’d love to help! Our Youth and College team can be reached at college@trfcu.org or by calling 260.399.8265.

What constitutes “full-time” enrollment?

While every school has different credit hour requirements to meet “full-time” enrollment, for most schools, this requires 12 credit hours or more. Graduate study typically requires 6 credit hours. If you’re unsure, please contact your university’s college advisor to see what constitutes full-time at your school.

What qualifies as “proof of enrollment?”

A screenshot, photo, or scanned copy of a letter of acceptance to an accredited school or your 2023 fall course schedule will meet this requirement.

Can I apply if I’ve not yet been accepted to a school, have not yet decided on a school, or think I might be transferring schools?

Yes! You can still apply. In place of uploading your proof of enrollment, simply upload a document that contains the line, “Proof of enrollment forthcoming.” If you are selected to receive a scholarship, we’ll hold the check until you can provide proof of enrollment.

I'm having trouble accessing the application and/or uploading documents.

While an application can be completed on any device, we do recommend using Chrome or Firefox browsers and ensuring you have a strong Internet connection before getting started.

If a hiccup occurs in the middle of your application, try saving it (see directions below) and then refreshing the page or completely shutting down the browser and jumping back in.

If you're only having issues when it comes to uploading your documents, check to see if they fit the file formats (.jpg, .jpeg, .pdf, .doc, .png) and size limits listed on the application. If they’re too big, try decreasing the size in a photo or document editor.

If you continue to have technical issues, contact us and we'll work with you to troubleshoot the issue.

I forgot to upload one of my documents or am having trouble uploading the documents via the application form.

No problem! Simply attach the documents to an email with the subject line, “Additional Scholarship Application Documents – [YOUR NAME]” and send it to scholarship@trfcu.org.

If I begin the application but need to step away from my computer, can I save my progress and continue later?

Yes! You are welcome to work on your application in more than one sitting by following these steps.

  1. At the bottom of the application screen, you’ll see link that says, “Save and Continue Later” (desktop) or a Save icon (mobile.)
  2. Upon clicking this, you’ll be prompted to enter your email. Enter your email, and a link to your application will be sent to you.
  3. Open the email, click the provided link, and you’ll be taken back to where you left off!

If for some reason you do not receive the email, or misplace it, email us at scholarship@trfcu.org and we will do our best to retrieve your application and send it to you.

How do I know my application has been successfully submitted?

After you submit your application, you should immediately see a screen confirming your submission, and within several minutes, receive an email confirmation as well. If you don’t see a confirmation email in your inbox, please check your Junk Mail folder before contacting us.

I already submitted my application, but realized there was something I wanted to add to my application and/or essay. Or I’d simply like to redo it all. Can I resubmit a new application?

Sorry, because of the volume of applications and documents we receive over the course of the entry period, we will only allow one submission per entrant to help us keep proper track. We encourage you to thoroughly read all instructions, double check that you’ve attached the appropriate documents, and proofread your essay before submitting the final version to us to ensure everything is accurate. If you’ve mistyped or left out important information (address, phone number, etc.) we will reach out to you for clarification.

How do I get a bonus entry?

Schedule a financial aid review with our Youth & College Team by emailing us at college@trfcu.org or giving us a call at 260.399.8265. You must complete your financial aid review by Monday, June 3, 2024.

Can I schedule my financial aid review to get my bonus entry before I submit my application?

Yes! You can schedule (and even complete) your financial aid review before submitting your scholarship application.

Can I skip filling out a Scholarship Contest application and just get an entry by having a financial aid review?

No. To be entered into the Scholarship Contest, you’ll need to complete an application.

What does the financial aid review consist of?

Every review will look different, and we’ll customize yours to your situation! We can use the time to review your financial aid award letters, discuss your college funding options, help you find other scholarship opportunities, and more.

What are my meeting options for the financial aid review?

We’re always happy to meet you at your nearest 3Rivers location, and can also meet virtually or over the phone if those options work better for everyone involved.

Can my parent(s)/guardian(s) join me for the financial aid review?

We’d encourage it! You’re welcome to bring whomever you’d like along for your meeting.

I missed the deadline due to technical difficulties, misreading the deadline date or time, procrastination, etc. Can I still be considered if I'm a few minutes or hours late?

Sorry! The deadline to apply is 12:00 PM EST (noon, not midnight!) on Monday, June 3, 2024. Any applications received after this time will NOT be taken into consideration, no matter the reason. Please use your time wisely, and plan to complete the application well in advance of the deadline to avoid any potential issues.

If you do experience technical difficulties at any time during the application process, please contact us detailing the issues you're having BEFORE 10:00 AM EST on June 3.

How and when will I be notified if I win a scholarship?

Scholarship winners will be notified first by email (the email provided on the application, so please be sure it's accurate), and then, pending no response, by phone. Any email contact from us will come from "Scholarship" (scholarship@trfcu.org) or James Cashman, the Youth & College Manager (jcashman@trfcu.org).

We will contact all applicants with the results on or by Friday, June 14, 2024.

Will I be contacted even if I don’t win?

Yes, we contact all applicants.

If I win, what happens next?

We’ll ask you to confirm your mailing address and sent your check via USPS within a few weeks of contacting you. Please be sure the address you provide is one you will be residing at when the check arrives (don’t give us your college dorm address if you’ll be living back at home for the summer)! We cannot send checks to your university, so please plan accordingly for getting it to them.

Winners MUST respond by email or phone by 5:00 PM EST on Friday, July 19, 2024. If we are unable to make contact with winners by this time, they risk forfeiting their prize to another randomly selected applicant.

Scholarship checks will be made out in the winner’s name as well as the name of their school. We suggest presenting the check in-person to your college’s bursar office.

NOTE: Some universities may lessen (or void) any existing grants or scholarships you’ve received from them should you receive scholarship funds from an outside organization. We encourage you to check in with your university’s financial aid office to ensure that, should you win extra scholarships like this one, you won’t lose out on anything they’ve already granted you! 3Rivers has no control over the way in which universities may alter a student’s funding upon receiving one of our scholarships.

What kinds of rules and regulations apply to the Scholarship Contest?

We have them all written out for you on our Official Rules page!

I have other questions not listed here. Who should I contact?

We’d be happy to assist you and ask that the scholarship applicant themselves contact us at scholarship@trfcu.org.

For details on prize amounts, application instructions, essay questions, and more, check out our Scholarship Overview Page and Official Rules Page.

-A check will be sent to each winning applicant via USPS, made out in their name. Should scholarship recipients want to apply these funds directly to their university student account to go toward tuition expenses, the recipients are responsible for reporting these funds to their university’s bursar office.

NOTE: Some universities may void any existing grants or scholarships they have granted students should students receive scholarship funds from an outside organization. Winner Selection Process

All application forms, supporting documents, and essays will be thoroughly screened to ensure all eligibility requirements (listed in Section II and Section III above) are met by the 3Rivers Scholarship Committee, comprised of 3Rivers Federal Credit Union employees, before being moved forward for inclusion in the final selection process.

The initially selected potential recipient will be disqualified and will have no recourse towards the Contest Sponsor. If a potential scholarship applicant cannot accept the scholarship as awarded for any reason, his or her entry will be forfeited and another eligible entrant may be selected. Any costs associated with accepting the scholarship shall be the sole responsibility of the winner.

In order to be eligible to be awarded the scholarship, each recipient may be required to:

-Sign a Declaration of Compliance with Rules and Regulations and an Assignment, Release and Indemnity Form,
